Remington RACS™ Accessory Chassis System

The RACS™ System is based on technology developed for the military in their XM2010 project. The XM2010 was engineered as part of an upgrade program for the M24 sniper rifle. The requirements were for a lightweight chassis as part of the refit and upgrade to 300 Win Mag. Remington® was awarded the U.S. M2010 Army Enhanced Sniper Rifle (ESR) contract in September 2010 to reconfigure up to 3,600 M24 Sniper Weapon Systems after a full and open competition.  With a RACS™ chassis you get all the benefits of the contract specs in a chassis that you can install your own Remington 700 long or short action in. The features are numerous and well thought out. Aircraft grade aluminum construction, adjustable length of pull, adjustable cheek rest, adjustable recoil pad and folding stock. You also get a rail system for mounting aiming devices, night vision, built in swivel attaching points and even cable routing guides capture wires associated with electro-optics. Keeping the operator in mind was foremost in the design and to prove it the entire thing only weighs in at a bit over 6 pounds. We had a chance to handle one recently and it’s an excellent piece of kit for the precision shooter and professional sniper alike. The RACS™ system is available in multiple finishes and colors and there is even a lighter weight, skeletonized buttstock version pictured here in FDE. Aimpoint PRO Optic Combat Ready Holosight.

Optics are always welcome in tests because there are so many options it difficult to decide what to buy. There are literally dozens of choices for holographic sights. The two top contenders are generally thought to be EOTech and Aimpoint. Similar theory, different design and there are fans in both camps. Our favorite Army Msg sniper swears by Aimpoint so we decided to test the new Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic. Aimpoint put a lot of thought into this package. It comes with a factory installed QRP2 mount that co-witnesses with carbine back up sights and is also adjustable for low profile use. The QRP2 also has a torque limiting twist mounting knob so you can’t overtighten it and damage the mount or rail. Lens caps are included with a clear rear cap so you can still engage a target without opening the front cap. The single battery life is so good it’s rated for up to 3 years in the on position so you can just let it run 24/7 with no worries about it being dead. The battery compartment and adjustment covers are joined by t-shaped a rubber strap so the covers won’t get lost and and adjustments for windage and elevation are easy to use. It took us just a few minutes to zero in. Another nice feature out of the box is that it is night vision compatible with 6 brightness levels on the 2 moa dot. As it turns out the  Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic is an ideal partner for carbine applications such as on the AR15/M4 platform. Our motto is “Everything you need, nothing you don’t” and this optic provides exactly that. In fact I personally liked the test scope so much it’s staying on my rifle as my permanent optic.
